Oil Change, Lube and Filter

Before we start talking about your Oil Lube & filter, we like to ask you a few questions and check the owner’s manual to see if your driving habits are minimal, moderate or severe.” Simply put, the more you drive and the kind of driving you do (Highway or street) will determine how often we should consider changing your oil. We generally recommend changing your oil every 3-5,000 miles.

What’s first?

The first thing we do during the oil lube & filter is check the levels and look for leaks. If everything looks good, we drain your oil and inspect it to determine the severity of the oil itself. Then we compare it with the amount of time since your last oil change. At this point, we will generally make future oil change frequency recommendations based on what we find. Next, we’ll replace your oil filter and refill your oil to the manufactures recommended levels. Your new oil filter will consist of a high-strength steel housing containing various types of filtering material.

Oil Filter:

The oil filter is designed to sifts out any foreign elements, allowing the oil to flow freely through the engine. If the oil filter becomes clogged or restricted with contaminants, they will flow around the filter. The filter acts as a safety mechanism, but you ultimately want to avoid letting your oil remain dirty for long periods of time. This is when you will begin to run in to problems and engine failure.

For optimal results, we suggest that you review your owner’s manual. Then factor in your driving habits to determine your maintenance schedule. Generally, this requires that you change your oil and filter at least every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or about 3 months. If you decide to replace the filter yourself, please be sure to dispose of it properly. It is important that you take your used filters to a facility that accepts them. This also allows for the used filters to be recycled. Most people don’t know that oil from only one used oil filter can contaminate up to 62,000 gallons of ground water.
